Have you ever been furious at someone for years? I was. Wrapped in my petty, selfish thoughts, I was sure that a woman at my workplace (also a Christian) was flirting with my husband. I hated her for twelve years, and she didn't even know it. One day, at a Christian missionary event, I just snapped. I hit her, scratched her, and even ripped her shirt. She had no idea what was happening! To be honest, neither did I. Through the Christian conciliation services of the CBC&E, our pastors and counselors helped us to mediate our conflict, and I made a full confession. I also learned that I had been blaming this woman for my marital problems -- my husband and I needed marital counseling as well.
Wellspring's Marriage Reconciliation Week has been a Godsend for our church's marriage ministry. We have now sent several different couples in severe marital crisis to the Marital Reconciliation Week. In each case we had exhausted all the counseling resources of our church and community, and in each case the couples have returned from St. Louis having made significant progress in dealing with the 'heart' issues that have divided them. Wellspring's counselors work hard to establish a relationship of trust with our pastoral staff and elders, and they partner with us in providing follow-up care to the couples as they return. Our partnership with Wellspring has given us hope for turning the tide of the battle for marriages in our church and community.
